NICE 2017

What to do:

  1. Promenade Anglais - watch the longboarders, skateboarders, and roller bladers

  2. Vielle Ville - markets and people watching

  3. Photograph colorful houses

  4. Relax on the rocky beaches

  5. Fragonard - beautiful, affordable perfume

  6. Climb hill and watch sunset over the beach

In Nice, my primary intention was to spend long hours lounging by the sea. But I passed the Promenade Anglais and there was a pack of French kids longboarding, skateboarding, and rollerblading. They jumped over obstacles they set up, sped around cones, and weaved through the crowd. I stayed a while just watching before I ended up striking up a conversation with a high school girl there. I ended up spending a few hours there then, watching, chatting, and learning to longboard dance from them. It was definitely not what I intended to do that day, but it was perfect!

When the sun started setting, we parted ways and I hiked up the hill above Nice to watch the sunset. It really is the perfect spot for a view of the coastline. But I had to hike up barefoot because my feet were rather sore.

For dinner, I went to Old Nice and I searched for ratatouille since it's a specialty here. A lot of restaurants have people standing outside trying to coax you in to eat at their place. The one I ended up choosing had ratatouille, ravioli niçoise, and I finished it off with a rosé. I then enjoyed a nice Aperol spritz by myself at a random place with a view of the sea.
