MARTEL 2015

In Martel, you’ll see many shops and homes constructed of pale stone and adorned with periwinkle shutters that pop from the monochromaticity. Here and there, you’ll see elegant colombage and graceful towers, too. It was autumn when we visited, so the trees were growing speckled with vermillion and saffron, and the vines creeping up stone exteriors were beginning to fade too. I will fully admit that while exploring this village with my host family, in my head, I wanted nothing more than to wander around with a blue pinafore dress and white apron, holding a book in one hand, while waving to folks “bonjour”.
